St Andrew’s Dragons Swimming Club was founded in 2004 under the name of Bishop Bavin Seals by the head coach, Theo Verster.
At the time the Club, trained out of the swimming pool at Bishop Bavin School in Bedfordview.
In 2010, the Club was afforded the opportunity of moving its training pool to its current location at St Andrew’s School for Girls in Bedfordview.
In May 2011, we officially moved across to the stunning aquatics facility that the Club currently runs out of.
Apart from the SSA approved 25m indoor heated, 10 lane swimming pool, a 25m Learn-to-Swim pool is also housed in this facility.
Our name was also officially changed to St Andrew’s Dragons Swimming Club.
We have had several high-profile swimmers move through the Club since its inception and under the training and coaching of Theo,
himself a former Olympian from the 2000 Sydney games.
Such swimmers are Lize-Marie Retief, Shireen Sapiro, Craig Groenewald and Adri Visser.
The Club also boasts several younger up and coming swimmers who currently hold several CGA records and several meet records from around the country.
Swimmers of St Andrew’s Dragons Swimming Club consistently perform well which places the Club in the top 5 of provincial and invitational galas.
